It concentrates on those who are getting haggard with their paper format of data and documentation and helps them to switch over to the digital format without much hassles or technical complications. The pricing is absolutely reasonable and affordable, and the PDA is concerned about the consumers’ very basic needs and easy to use adaptability without creating any technophobia.

This Palm Z22 PDA is absolutely compact in size and light in weight with a memory of 32MB. Though the resolution of the screen is not very much impressive and the touch screen is not highly responsive the device provides total solution to the new users.

DESIGN AND STYLE

This Palm Z22 Handheld PDA is one of the most smallest and comfortable Pocket PCs which fit into one’s hand. It is also very user friendly and weighs just about 3.4 ounces. It sports a cool white and translucent midnight blue colour blend.

This is for the first-time users in parents, students and others at low cost. There is no wireless or multimedia facility or any other technological gimmicks. It proposes only the core functions of a personal organizer.

Ergonomically, there is nothing to scare anyone with its complex buttons. There is one power button on the left with two other buttons which are application launchers, mainly the contacts and the calendar on either side. The stylus inside a silo that can be found in the right upper edge is used for navigating over the screen and keying in the text. Also there is one mini-USB connector at the top. The charger plug and the sync cable can be connected in this single connector.

PROCESSOR AND MEMORY

This PDA from Palm has a processor of 200 MHz and has an in-built memory of 32MB of Flash Memory and a 20MB could be used for storing data. In the Z22 there is no option for an SD expansion memory slot for added data. On the other hand, if one wishes to communicate or transfer images or information to other users of PDA, it could be done with the IR port that is available in all PDAs. Even a folding keyboard could be used in this model of Z22.

SCREEN AND DISPLAY

The screen of the Palm Z22 Pocket PC is of STN display with a resolution of 160 x 160 pixels. Even though, there is nothing mentioned about how many colours that are exactly displayed. This model also sports backlighting with two high and low settings for brightness. There is also a slider for adjusting the contrast of the screen. This is the best you get with an STN or super twisted nematic colour saturation in this display. The images are not very sharp and clear, but look good.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The Palm Desktop for Macs/Windows is the main feature of the Palm Z22 Handheld PDA, for a simple and easy usage. This allows you to perform all the basic and necessary application of adding, editing and transferring contacts, memos, tasks etc. This acts as your personal organizer which could also be synced to the MS Outlook. Important photos can be stored for viewing and Graffiti 2 software for handwriting recognition can be used along with the stylus.

The basic functions like calculator, world clock, expense tracker, Games for kids, through the MS office can be used.

This Palm PDA model also sports a USG port on top for both sync and charging. You can also use the IR Port. The HotSync can be accessed by pressing the icon found in the program launcher.

POWER

The Z22 is powered by a 900mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It is highly useful for all the applications offered in the PDA and can stand up to a week. It is not a user-replaceable battery.
